Sydney Western Suburbs

Western Sydney is a major region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It has a number of different definitions but one consistently used is the region composed of the 11 councils which until recently were all members of the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils:
Auburn Council
Bankstown City Council
Blacktown City Council
Blue Mountains City Council
Fairfield City Council
Hawkesbury City Council
Holroyd City Council
Liverpool City Council
Parramatta City Council
Penrith City Council
Western Sydney as defined by the WSROC region covers 5,800 square kilometres and had an estimated resident population as at June 30, 2008 of 1,665,673.
Western Sydney is also used to refer to the Greater Western Sydney region, which is the combination of Western Sydney as defined above and the Macarthur Region (also referred to as South-western Sydney). As well as the 11 councils listed above, the GWS region includes Camden Council, Campbelltown City Council and Wollondilly Shire Council.
The NSW Government’s Office of Western Sydney uses the broader Greater Western Sydney definition to refer to the region, which includes both WSROC and MACROC council areas.

Western Sydney is considered a particularly crucial region in federal politics , and the region’s social conservativism has been credited with forming policy on migration and the treatment of asylum seekers by both major political parties .

Sydney Inner West Suburbs

The Inner West is a general term which is used to describe the metropolitan area directly to the west of the Sydney central business district, New South Wales, Australia. The suburbs of the Inner West are predominantly located along the southern shore of Port Jackson (Parramatta River), stretching south to the shores of the Cooks River.

Geography - The topography of the Inner West reflects rolling hills intersected by shallow valleys through which waterways including Iron Cove Creek, Hawthorne Canal (formerly Long Cove Creek), Whites Creek and Johnstons Creek flow. These waterways have been drastically altered since the late 19th century by the means of concrete lining. For example, in the 1860s Iron Cove Creek was a freely flowing waterway which in places broadened into ponds that made excellent and picturesque swimming holes.
It is now barely a trickle lined by residential areas, parkland and fast-food restaurants Municipalities, suburbs and localities - The Inner West is not a precise geographical region.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics limits its Inner Western Sydney statistical region to the local government areas of:
City of Canada Bay
Municipality of Ashfield
Burwood Council
Municipality of Strathfield
The NSW Government’s Metropolitan Strategy adds an extra local government area to its Inner West subregion:
Municipality of Leichhardt
The local newspaper, the Inner West Courier, adds one further local government area:
Marrickville Council

Sydney North Shore Suburbs

The North Shore is an informal term used to describe the primarily residential area of northern metropolitan Sydney, in New South Wales, Australia. The term usually refers to the suburbs located on the north shore of Sydney Harbour between Middle Harbour and the Lane Cove River, up to the northern border of the Ku-ring-gai local government area. Since it is not clearly defined, it has been incorrectly used to refer to suburbs further west to the Ryde Bridge, although this wider description encompasses what is also known as the Northern Suburbs.

Sydney Southern Suburbs and Shire

Sydney Southern Suburbs is a general term which is used to describe the southern metropolitan area of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
Depending on the context, ‘Southern Sydney’ would include the suburbs in the local government areas of Rockdale, Kogarah and Hurstville (collectively known as the St George area), and in broad geographical usage it includes the suburbs in the local government area of Sutherland, south of the Georges River (colloquially known as ‘The Shire’). As a result, the area is often referred to as St George and Sutherland, as in the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ St George-Sutherland Statistical Subdivision.

Sydney Northern Beaches

The Northern Beaches is an area in the northern coastal suburbs of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, located near the coast of the Pacific Ocean. This area extends south to the entrance of Port Jackson (Sydney Harbour), west to Middle Harbour and north to the entrance of Broken Bay.
The Northern Beaches district is usually considered to be the area of the Northern Beaches Statistical Subdivision, comprising fully the local government areas of Manly, Warringah and Pittwater. The 2011 Australian census found the Northern Beaches to be the most White and mono-ethnic district in greater Sydney and surrounds, contrasting with its more-diverse neighbours: the North Shore and the Central Coast. The Northern Beaches is also known for its drinking-culture, “the surfer boy who never grew up” (“surfies”) and as the name suggests, its beaches. Without a railway line and with growing congestion, a ‘bus culture’ has developed in the Northern Beaches, with long bus-routes, such as the L88 and L90 forming part of the local folklore.

Manly Beach is a beach situated among the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. From north to south, the three main sections are Queenscliff, North Steyne, and South Steyne.
Manly Beach circa 1900
Within walking distance of Manly Beach along the oceanway is Fairy Bower and Shelley Beach. There are shops, restaurants, night clubs, and dive bars in town.
The beach was named by Capt. Arthur Phillip for the indigenous people living there. He wrote about them, “Their confidence and manly behaviour made me give the name of Manly Cove to this place”.
Manly Council Lifeguards operate a year-round service at South Steyne, and operate from October to April at North Steyne and Queenscliff.[2] Volunteer Life Savers also patrol on weekends and public holiday between October and May.
A Manly Beach sunset
Travelling to Manly from Sydney’s main ferry terminal, Circular Quay, takes 30 minutes by ferry. The Corso, a pedestrian plaza and one of Manly’s main streets for shopping and dining, runs from the ferry wharf and harbour beach, across the peninsula to Manly Beach, where it marks the boundary between North Steyne and South Steyne.
